TRIPLE D AWARD

Our family was with the very first families that started this college station swim team. I had eight children that went through the program. Most of them started swimming across at four or five but I had one child that didn’t even speak until he was four or walk until he was two and was extremely uncoordinated. This same child could not speak his ABC’s in order at the age of nine. He was diagnosed with Klinefelters Syndrome which is an extra chromosome on the 23rd rung of the chromosomal ladder. We then started neurological exercises with him every day for six years and swimming was one of the very best exercises for his brain. This young boy turned out to be a very hard-working dedicated young man so much so that he graduated from A&M with honors.

The triple D award started with him. He worked so hard... he tried so hard... with extreme determination and diligence and dedication to swim well. He eventually was able to get some first place ribbons and go on to coach after he graduated.

In 2012 while he was in the Air Force our son Adam died. The city of College Station recreation manager, who knew Adam well because even after he coached he worked with the city being an umpire, a referee and managing some of the parks, came to me and asked if it would be all right to rename the triple D award after Adam and thus it became the Adam Lassiter triple D award.

What an honor for him and an everlasting encouragement to us.

This award goes to show each of you that with diligence, determination and dedication you can do so much more than you could ever dream.
