New Parent Info
Swim Requirements (Please reference the 2026 Parent Handbook)
~ Swimmers must be able to complete 25 meters (the length of the lane at Adamson Lagoon) without any assistance. Swimmer must be able to swim any stroke the length of the pool without help from the wall, the lane rope, the lifeguard or the coach.
~ Swimmers must be able to follow instructions independently.
~ NWAL rules state that swimmers must reside in the area or community of their team. This rule was implemented for areas where the teams and swimmers are much more densely populated. If you live outside of College Station and are interested in participating in Tsunamis please reach out to us and we will help you get registered.
Practice Expectations
~ Practices in May are usually quite crowded and a bit hectic. In June, the team moves to multiple practice times and lanes are not quite as crowded.
~ Parents should stay under the pavilion and give the Coaches room to move and coach the swimmers. Practice time is not the time to ask the Coaches questions as they are on deck to coach the swimmers. There will be an Age Group Parent or floating coach (usually the head coach) available to answer questions during practice, however the coaches assigned to lanes need to be able to keep their focus on the swimmers.
~ Parents of swimmers under 8 are expected to stay in the area. See Swim Requirements; following instructions independently can be a learning process for our younger swimmers.
Time Trials
~ The Time Trial or Mock meet is the first meet of our season and is usually held the first Saturday in May. This is a Mock Meet as we do not swim against any other team. All swimmers are encouraged to participate in the Mock Meet.
~ All swimmers must have a Time Trial time in order to participate in any Dual Meets during the season. All previous times expire prior to the start of each new season.
~ We encourage all swimmers to achieve a Time Trial time in all 5 individual events regardless of if they are legal or not.
~ At the Time Trial meet we will have Officials participating and training. However NO disqualifications will be registered at this meet.
~ If you cannot attend the Time Trial meet or Mock Meet there will be other opportunities provided to achieve these times in order for each swimmer to be able to participate in Dual Meets as soon as the season starts.
~ The Time Trial or Mock Meet also gives our team the opportunity to ensure all of our systems are working before we begin hosting other teams for Dual Meets. Our electronic starter, all of our equipment, and our volunteers get practice at their positions before the added pressure of another team.

All families have a minimum volunteer requirement for home and away meets. Each family must volunteer for a minimum of 3 shifts for the 2026 season. 2 shifts will be for home meets and 1 shift is for away meets. If you are unable to attend an away meet, the 3 shift requirement can be achieved at home meets. Please communicate with the Head Coach. If you are signed up to be an NWAL swim official, you are only required to work 2 shifts at home meets.
Team Suits / Uniform
~ Team Suits are highly encouraged. Team suits as well as additional Tsunami gear can be purchased through our team store located HERE.
~ Each swimmer will be issued one cap and t shirt once they have signed up for the team. Swimmers should wear their team shirts for the team pictures.
All swimmers should have an appropriate practice suit, googles that DO NOT cover the nose, swim cap, towel and a water bottle. Sunscreen is highly encouraged and bug spray. We kindly ask that your swimmer does not wear any normal, regular clothes over their swim suit while they are in the water for practice or a meet.
What to Bring to a Swim Meet
~ All meets are outside with limited shade. Prepare to bring a tent, lawn/sports chairs, towels, snacks, water/gatorade, coolers, and wear cool clothing.
~ Parent communication will go out the week of each swim meet to help describe parking, pool and spectator location and additional details for all away meets.
~ Bring a sharpie. In swimming, events are written on a swimmers arm to help them remember what they are swimming.
~ Please do not bring candy as a snack for your swimmer.
~ Plan to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before warm-up for your family to set-up, your swimmer to find their coaches, and to familiarize yourself with the location.
