    2016 Tsunami Update

    Tsunami Parents!

We hope you are getting excited for the upcoming summer league season.  If you haven't logged on to the Tsunami website (http://collegestation.swim-team.us) recently, you might want to take a minute to log in as I have been trying to update it with helpful information and dates for the upcoming season.  (If there is particularly information you would like to see on the website, please email me, and see what I can do.)  If you no longer want to see these emails, please log on and adjust your email/notification preferences.

A couple of changes for the 2016 season I wanted to make everyone aware of:

    • NWAL has added two new events this season, those are events 1 & 2 Girls & Boys 10 & Under 50 Free.  What used to be Events 1 & 2 Girls & Boys 14 & Under 100 Free, are now events 3 & 4 (all events were necessarily moved back by 2 numbers) Girls & Boys 11-14 100 Free.  This means swimmers 10 & Under are no longer eligible to swim the 100 free during the NWAL season, but they now have access to the 50 Free.
    • Divisional Eligibility now only requires that swimmers have an "official time" for any event they wish to swim at divisionals.  Officials times are those obtained at a dual meet.  The prior rule required swimmers to swim in TWO dual meets, but the new rule only requires swimmers to have an official time for an event they want to swim at divisionals.  This means a swimmer who only swims in ONE dual meet is eligible for Divisionals (and end of season invitationals); however, they would ONLY be able to swim events they legally completed in that one meet and therefore received an official time in.  (The would also have to have an official time in any individual event that makes up a relay if they are to swim on a relay at divisionals.)
    • Points will now be awarded in individual events for 1st through 6th place. (7-5-4-3-2-1), and in relays 7 points for 1st place and 3 points for second place; however a team can only score one relay per meet.  However, unlike prior years, if one team wins both 1st and 2nd place in a dual meet points will only be awarded for 1st place and no points will be awarded to the other team for that relay event.

There are still opportunities to get certified by NWAL as a stroke & turn judge for the 2016 season, or for computer entry.  You do not have to experience to hold either of these positions, and volunteering in either of these positions for at least three meets will earn you a refund of 50% of your registration fees at the end of the season.  You need to log on to NWALcertified.org (create an account if you do not have one yet), and sign up for Stroke & Turn (SNT) lecture AND on deck, or the COM class.  I will be attending the COM class on Monday night at Windrose (back pool), and have room in my car if you want to ride with me.  The SNT lecture and On deck scheduled for Sat., April 30th at North Hampton is probably the most convenient one to get to, it is not far off the Grand Pkwy at Kuykendahl.

If you do not want to get certified this summer, or are not able . . . have no fear, we will have ample opportunity to put you to work helping us run fun and efficient meets this summer. :)  Also, anyone interested in volunteering as an age group parent, or otherwise helping make this a great season, please contact me at [email protected].

Remember to get your swimmers registered either at the Parks & Rec office in central park, or online.  Help us grow the team, let your friends and neighbors know about the Tsunami swim team and how much fun it is.  Swimmers or all ability levels between the ages of 4-18 who can swim the length of the pool unassisted (even if they stop to take a break) are eligilble, and swimmers can join throughout the season!

    Thanks,

    Melissa ([email protected])
