    Tsunami updates 5/1/23

    Howdy Tsunami Families!

    Practice starts THIS WEEK!

Please try to arrive on time and have your swimmer check in with the coach taking attendance to verify their training group.

Parents (and younger siblings) will need to set up away from the coaching area. There is plenty of pavilion space where the kids won't be too distracted. We often have lots of younger siblings approach the pool during practice. This is pretty disruptive to practice and could become dangerous pretty quickly. Please try to keep younger siblings a safe distance from the pool. Also, no climbing on the walls, tables, stairs, slides, etc.

Also please remember the baby pool is CLOSED during practice.

    Practice Sessions

I've had lots of parents ask about their swimmer attending practice on a night they did not sign up for or coming to "make up" practices. We will do our best to work in every swimmer who arrives for practice. During the month of May we have the M/W OR T/Th options to keep our practices from becoming over-crowded and unsafe. If your swimmer needs to attend on an "off evening" they may see the same practice as well. M/T practices will be the same and W/Th practices will also be the same. This is to ensure all swimmers are receiving consistent coaching.

If you need to verify which practice your swimmer should attend you can find it here:

"If you are wondering what training group your swimmer is in you can now check that! When you log in to your Tsunamis account you will see your name at the top right with a down arrow. Hover over your name, click "My Account", you should see your family, swimmers and contact information come up. When you click on your swimmer it will show their age group, training group, AND you can even review times if your swimmer has been competing in meets! Pretty Cool! "

    Time Trial Meet May 6th

The Time Trial Meet is THIS Saturday. Please be sure to complete your swimmers' entries as soon as possible. Entries will close on Thursday at NOON! Beginning the first dual meet Entries will close at 11:59pm on Wednesday. This is because we are required to merge the meet with the other team no later than 6pm on Thursday of each week.

Swimmers who completed their time trials outside of the time trial meet, those times will be entered AFTER the Time Trial meet has been completed. Entries for the Bryan Meet the following weekend will not open until AFTER the Time Trial meet this week. At that time I will be able to open ALL Dual Meet entries.

Reminder, Swimmers MUST HAVE A TIME TRIAL TIME for ANY event they would like to swim at a Dual Meet during the season.

Please be sure to sign up to volunteer during Time Trials as well. It takes SO many to keep these meets running and we still have a lot of spaces to fill.

    Make Up Evaluations

IF your swimmer missed the Evaluations or needs to try again we can do that at EITHER 4:30pm or 6:15pm Mon-Thur of this week. Each swimmer attempting an Evaluation (either make up or first time) will only get ONE attempt. They need to be prepared to come in and complete that evaluation as the coaches are needed to coach practice. To schedule your swimmer's evaluation if they were not able to attend last week please reach out to me via email.

    Team Updates

Our team is currently at 209 Swimmers! Wow!

Please keep in mind that the goal of Tsunami Swim Team is to be a SWIM TEAM. Practice is not required, but attendance is how your swimmer will see improvement. Meets are not required, but participation is part of being ON THE TEAM and this is how your swimmer KNOWS they have improved. Their times get faster and their DQs get fewer.

Understand that size of our team is why we have to be so diligent about safety and ensuring that swimmers are at least strong enough to swim the length of the pool without assistance.

Our website is always a great source of information as well. Check out that Frequently Asked Questions page for a lot of answers: https://collegestation.swimtopia.com/frequently-as...

Look out for updates to our Coaches page as well.

If there is one word I've used a lot in this email it is Please - one last time, Please be patient with us, especially this week. We are still working on filling our coaching staff and several of our coaches are new. Please DO NOT try to get all of your questions answered during practice (while the coaches should be paying attention to the swimmers). If you have questions email them to me & I will get to them when I get off the deck.

We are ready for a GREAT swim season! See you at the Pool!
