    Practice Starts this week!

    Howdy Tsunami Families!

This email contains A LOT of information! Please take the time to read it & let me know if you have questions so we are ready for the coming week!

    1. Practice Day/Time/Lane Assignments

I am attaching a spreadsheet of our swimmers that includes information on the day/time & lane assignments to expect for your swimmers. I am still "tweaking" some of the information in this spreadsheet & lane assignments are subject to change per the coaches on deck. This does give your swimmer a "place to go" the first night of practice though. The lanes will change throughout the season though, so don't get too attached to that lane. You can also find the day & time your swimmer's practice is on this spreadsheet if you need to verify that.

If your swimmer does not have a lane number next to their day assignment that means I did not get an evaluation time for them.

I have received quite a few requests for swimmers to attend practices outside of their regular day/time. I am working through these as quickly as possible. As you can see by the spreadsheet attached we are a pretty full team this year. And we still have a few more sign ups trickling in. If you do not hear from me to change the practice time please plan on attending at your swimmer's scheduled practice time.

    2. Shirts

Did you get your swimmer's shirt at Meet the Coaches? If you left your name on the list we have tried to put those shirts in the family boxes. If you requested an Adult Small we are out of those. Not sure yet when we can expect those to come in but if you would like to consider a different size I can probably get you a shirt. Just let me know & I will put it in the family box. Again, if you need a shirt for your swimmer we are currently out of Adult Small.

    3. Time Trial Meet

Please get your swimmer registered for the Time Trial meet if you will be in town on May 7th. Please sign up for one of the many available Volunteer Jobs as well. We still need lots of people to help this meet run smoothly. Registration for each meet will close the Thursday before the meet at 9am. So the Time Trial Meet entries will close Thursday May 5th at 9am.

    4. What if my swimmer tried to make the 25 Meters at Evaluations but did not?

You have a couple of options here. You can send me an email & I can get a refund issued for you. You can also send me an email to schedule another evaluation sometime in May. They are welcome to re-try their evaluation to be able to come to practice as well.

    5. When will Time Trial times completed during evaluations be entered?

I will be able to end the Time Trial times after that meet has been run. They will be done by hand & entered in time for your swimmer to register for the next dual meet.

Please remember; your swimmer MUST HAVE A CURRENT TIME TRIAL TIME in the system to enter any event in a Dual Meet. Times from last year DO NOT COUNT. If your swimmer still needs to get some time trial times & will not be at the May 7th Time Trial meet please email me so we can arrange that.

    6. Swim suits & equipment

Team Suits can be ordered via the link on the website. Swimmers may also need a practice suit, goggles, caps, etc. I use the website Swimoutlet

    https://invite.swimoutlet.com/x/i0XJwb

for these things in our household. Probably the most popular and dependable goggle out there right now is the Speedo Vanquisher. It comes in youth & adult sizes. I would suggest having goggles that are tinted & polarized as we practice in an outdoor pool. Having good goggles is very important for the swimmers, goggles that do not work or leak are very distracting for them. Having a good practice suit is also important. The baggy board shorts are strappy swim suits also end up being a distraction during practice as well. The competition suits are made to stay in place and fit snugly so they do not billow around & affect the swimmer's form & training. Caps for those with long hair are also very important; long hair just does not stay in place in a rubber band while at swim practice. The hair getting in the face & eyes definitely distracts the swimmers.

It has been a very busy week & most of my time has been absorbed by getting approximately 225 swimmers evaluated & many of them time trialed as well. I could not have gotten through the week without the help of the coaches that have been hired so far (more are coming), the City employees loaned to me from another parks department and the volunteers that came out to help. Thank you all for pitching in! As I mentioned, we do not have our coaching staff fully hired yet, more will be coming on in the next week or so. Please say hello & introduce yourself when you see them on deck!

We are ready for an exciting week of swimming & learning this week!

    See you at the pool!
