Friday update
Howdy Tsunami Family!
As I mentioned, you will begin to get more frequent emails from me! These are also posted to our website to you can refer back to them as needed.
You all have asked some great questions, so I thought I would share the answers with everyone.
Q: Are practices/meets mandatory?
A: No. Practices and meets are not mandatory. Of course we would love for you all to attend as many practices and meets as you are able, but they are not mandatory. If you go out of town or have other things going on we are not going to do anything if you miss. We do ask that if you do know that you are missing a meet, please do not sign up for that meet.
Q: What do swimmers wear to practices/meets?
A: The kids usually all wear competitive swim suits. The boys usually wear jammers & the girls a competition style girls suit. You can order your team suits from the team store on our website. Don't forget you are welcome to come in to use the sizing kit, just be sure to email me to set up a time to do that. The most popular type of goggle these days is the Speedo Vanquisher which you can find at most online swim outlets; they come in youth & adult size. Swim caps work far better than pony tail holders to keep the hair out of your swimmers way if they have long hair. After some time in the water the pony tail holders don't seem to work well at all. I would encourage the use of swim caps (especially for long hair) at both practice & meets, but they are not mandatory. We will provide all other required equipment; kick boards, pull buoy, etc. (unless of course you already have & want to use your own).
Q: Does my swimmer need to sign up for Evaluations if we already know they can complete 25 Meters.
A: We do more than just make sure swimmers can complete the minimum requirement at Evaluations. We will give the swimmers their shirt & swim cap. We say "HI" & introduce our new Coaches. We can complete Time Trial times if you know you won't already be at the Time Trial meet on May 8th. We will get at least 1 time to help assign each swimmer to the proper lane. We will answer questions prior to the first week of practice. So please be sure to sign up for your spot & come to Evaluations. Use the survey to let us know when you will be here!

Q: I see that some sections are full. Should I put my swimmer on the Waitlist?
A: YES! Please put your swimmer on the waitlist. The only way we will be able to address those full sections is if we know HOW full they are & create some options to open up more sections. If you or someone you know encounter a full section & would like to sign up please use the waitlist & feel free to send me an email if you have additional questions about this.
Q: Do I wait to sign my swimmer up until after Evaluations?
A: NO! I would say "see question above". We do have sections that are filling up. We are going to do our best to accommodate everyone but we need to know how many "everyone" includes. Please go ahead & sign your swimmer up if you think they really want to swim. Remember, Evaluations are ONLY making it 25 Meters. It doesn't have to be pretty, it only has to be unassisted.
Q: What will practices look like after May?
A: Since we are able to spread out into 2 practices each day when school gets out we do not usually see the crowding we see when everyone only has the option of 1 practice time. We plan to allow swimmers to choose either morning or evening practice times based on their schedule & if we start to see an issue with lane crowding we will address it at that time using a sign up.
This is a whole lot of information for today & you know you can expect MORE next week! So be sure to:
- Get your swimmers signed up
- Sign up for Evaluations
- Set up a time to use the sizing kit (if needed) & order your suit
- Let me know if you will NOT make it to the May 8th Time Trial meet
- Let me know if you need more information on becoming an Official
- Get ready for a GREAT season!
We are excited to get to see all of you! See you at the pool!
