Weather Policy
Howdy Tsunamis!
Today is a GREAT day to have a GREAT day! It's also a GREAT day for me to go over what the Tsunami Weather Policy is!
It's been pretty crummy today ~ and honestly, I am relieved. I thought it was going to be like this ALL week long; if we only have 1 day like this for this week then that's a WIN in my book!
We make it a policy to "wait & see" with the weather.
We follow the pool rules of 30 minutes out of the pool (and off the deck) in the case of thunder & lightning. This time resets EVERY TIME we hear thunder or see lightning. Sometimes a practice group at one time may not be able to have practice, but another group might go ahead & practice; it all depends on the time & duration of the storm. We also cannot swim if the weather (rain, wind, etc. w/o thunder or lightning) impedes visibility & safety for the lifeguards. So if it's raining so hard the lifeguards cannot see the bottom of the pool then we will not be able to swim ~ even if there's no thunder or lightning.
We also wait & see in regards to swim meets that we are hosting. If we call a swim meet early due to weather, but it blows over in an hour (and we could have just started late) then not only have we inconvenienced a team that has traveled to get to our pool, BUT we ALSO have to MAKE UP THAT MEET BEFORE our next meet. This is REALLY hard to do and often times swimmers that were registered for the meet will no longer be able to attend. And no, we cannot register any new swimmers who were not originally on the entry list either.
So tonight we might not be able to get in at 5pm, but we might be able to get in at 6pm - we just don't know these things yet.
One thing I will tell you is that it WILL BE COLD tonight. Our air temperature will be about 70 throughout the evening and with the rain the water temp will be a bit cooler than it's been the last 2 evenings.
If you do not want to bring your swimmer tonight we will have another Evaluation session tomorrow (and the weather is supposed to be much better).
If we ever do get to a point where we need to cancel practice I will send out an email and post via Swimtopia as soon as I know.
Hope that answers at least some of your questions.
Have a great evening Tsunamis!
Coach Michelle
